There was a controversial article that really caught my eye the other day. Dr Jeffry Life is a 73 year old physician from Las Vegas who is not only defying the rules of ageing, but rewriting them altogether.
You may be thinking this guy has probably been super fit his whole life so of course he's still going to look good and be fit in his 70's. This is the assumption I made before reading his story.
"I was 59 with an overweight, poorly conditioned body and declining health. My joints and muscles ached, I had shortness of breath whenever I climbed just one short flight of stairs, my clothes were too tight and my stomach was huge. That’s when I realized it was long past time to focus some medical attention on myself.
I came across a magazine issue, showing the winners of the Body-for-LIFE contest and was motivated to change my destiny. I followed a low-glycemic/low-fat diet, took supplements and plunged into a heavy exercise regimen with help from a trainer. At the end of 1998, at age 60— after 12 weeks of eating and training right—I became the Grand Champion in Bill Phillips 1998 Body-for-LIFE contest."
If you have read Dr Life story you will know that he also injects human growth hormones and testosterone as part of his "age management" which has stirred up considerable controversy. The long term effects of injecting human growth hormones without having adult growth hormone deficiency (AGHD) are still largely unknown and potentially dangerous.
The moral of the story is not that you need to have a six-pack or a body of a 30-something year old when you are in your 70's but that it is NEVER too late to start living a healthier and happier life.
Now is the time to make the change!
