Most people find it very difficult to start a fitness regimen especially if you haven't exercised in a long time. The most common question people ask me is "how do I get fit quick without having to do a lot?"
The honest answer is "you can't". Getting in shape requires time and hard work. You need to put in the effort to reap the rewards.
The most important thing to do is to work out your purpose - what do you want to achieve and why? If you have no purpose you will not achieve anything. For example it could be something simple like running 1km without stopping or increasing your energy levels to keep up with the kids.
