Choosing which exercises to include in your training program can be a confusing task - a bit like a kid walking into a candy store. There are so many different types of exercises to choose from. So which exercises are most effective and suitable for you?
Exercises can be broken down into 3 main categories:
CARDIOVASCULAR
Cardiovascular training helps to develop aerobic endurance and increase lung capacity - usually performed at a lower intensity for a longer period of time.
STRENGTH
Strength training helps to improve muscle endurance and joint function - generally performed at a higher intensity for shorter periods of time; involves using weights or body weight for resistance.
FLEXIBILITY
Flexibility training helps to improve the range of motion in muscles and joints - this enhances sporting performance and decreases the chance of injury.
Over the next couple of weeks I will explain each of the categories in greater detail and how best to incorporate them into your exercise routine.
